Regional shipping industry heads to meet in Trinidad:

The leadership of the Caribbean shipping industry will meet in Port of Spain,
Trinidad and Tobago, October 13, 14 and 15, 2008 for the Caribbean Shipping
Association’s 38th Annual General Meeting, Conference and Exhibition.

The Caribbean Shipping Association has become increasingly concerned
about port security issues, particularly as they affect the smallest of
Caribbean states. President Fernando again raised concern about the security needs of
small Caribbean nations and the cost of acquiring and maintaining the
technologies being demanded, at the General Council meeting, held in
Kingston Jamaica in January 2008. The CSA plans to assist the smaller states
in the Region with port security.

The Caribbean Shipping
Association (CSA) will be consolidating its relationships with regional
organizations over the coming year so as to implement a number of policy
initiatives with respect to training and human resource development; port and
cargo security; and, data and statistics.
In
this regard, the CSA will be engaging in talks with CARICOM, where it has had
Observer status for many years; and, the Association of Caribbean States (ACS),
where is has Social Partner status. In addition, the Association will be continuing
dialogue started earlier this year with the United States Coast Guard with a
view to supporting and assisting smaller Caribbean States to improve port and
cargo security systems.

CSA Handbook of Caribbean ports available here...
 The Caribbean Shipping Association (CSA)
is preparing to publish its Handbook of Caribbean Ports 2009 – 2011. The
new Handbook will be released to CSA members at the Association’s 38th Annual General
Meeting, Conference at Exhibition to be held in the Republic of Trinidad
and Tobago in October 2008. The only handbook of Caribbean ports is published by the
CSA as a service to the regional shipping industry. The
publication, is available free of charge from the CSA Secretariat in
Kingston (e-mail: csa@cwjamaica.com) or from national shipping
associations in throughout the Caribbean.
